I have wanted to photograph this amazing woman for I have wanted to photograph this amazing woman for a while!

Aren’t these images full of joy!

Just in case you’re thinking ‘I’d love to do this but I wouldn’t know where to start’.

The good news is that we work through a plan together, something that’s perfect just for you, and then I direct you every step of the way.

I arranged a 2 hour, 2 location shoot with @helsbells_celebrant and the two locations worked perfectly for her.

Winning an award for my photography is always a hu Winning an award for my photography is always a huge buzz. But winning this award for running a successful business felt different.

Earlier this month, I was named Chesterfield Sole Trader of the Year. And while I’ve won awards before, this was the first time I’d been recognised for my photography business, not just my photography skills.

Being a really good photographer doesn’t automatically mean you’ll have a successful photography business. They’re two completely different skill sets.

Learning photography felt relatively straightforward(ish). I could practise, experiment, make mistakes and see myself improving over time.

Building a business has been far less predictable.

It’s meant learning how to market myself, understand my customers, make difficult decisions, adapt when things aren’t working and take myself seriously as a business owner.

And I think that last part is particularly significant for women running their own businesses.

There’s still a tendency for female micro businesses, particularly creative ones, to be seen as a passion project or something we do around the edges of family life.

These are real businesses. They support other businesses, support families and contribute to our local economy.

I still have plenty to learn. I need to keep evolving, adapting to what my customers need. I’m fortunate to have some amazing people around me who help me feel brave enough to keep pushing forward.

It’s been a wild ride, but I’m so happy to still be here and am excited for the future.

I’ve written more about why winning Sole Trader of the Year meant so much to me a blog post. I’ll add the link in my bio.

“I did a very brave thing and had some brand photos taken by Helen for my small business! Only I didn't need to be brave at all- she put me at ease straight away.

Her studio is beautifully styled (and air conditioned as it was 31 degrees outside on the day we took the pics) and I was able to take props to use as well.

I am thrilled with the photos! I never thought I would say that about photos of myself, but I do love them!

Thank you so much Helen for my beautiful Brand photos - they are going to be so useful.

I can't recommend Helen highly enough. If you've been thinking about doing this, what are you waiting for?”

I won! Last night feels like a dream but I am now I won!

Last night feels like a dream but I am now Chesterfield’s Sole Trader of the year 2026!

Goodness, this means a lot to me.

I absolutely love the business and lifestyle that I’ve built for myself. I adore the huge variety of passionate business owners that I get to work with and I know that they’re going to be so happy for me.

I appreciate that this isn’t an Oscar speech but while I’ve got the opportunity there are a few people who I’d like to thank for their support.

Thanks to these people I never feel like I’m running my business alone.

Through @loop_chesterfield, the networking group that I’ve been co-hosting for the past 3 years I’ve met over 100 incredible, hard working, supportive local women all running their own micro businesses. We've built an amazing community of support there I just know that every one of them will be happy for me today.

Thank you to Emily of @simplygreatbritain for always asking the most perfect questions and creating the space for me to work on my business. She keeps me focused on creating a business that is sustainable and most importantly makes me happy.

Thank you to the Chesterfield Business Awards Organisers and their chosen charity for the event @chesterfieldanimalrescue

Andrew of Peak Radio for forcing my into an interview
